Footed vs unfooted pyjamas: which should your baby wear?
Footed pyjamas cover the feet; unfooted, or footless, pyjamas stop at the ankles. That is the obvious difference. The less obvious one is how they fit into the rest of bedtime: the fabric, sleeping bag and room all matter too.
Start with the pair that fits now

Look at the actual garment rather than choosing by the age printed on it. With footed pyjamas, check the length through the body and legs as well as the space around the toes. With unfooted pyjamas, look at where the cuffs sit and whether they leave marks or ride up.
A pair that is awkward to fasten or pulls when your baby bends their legs deserves a closer look. Follow the clothing maker's sizing advice; leaving the feet open does not make an outgrown garment fit again.
Do unfooted pyjamas always need socks?
Do not add socks just because the feet feel cooler. The Lullaby Trust says hands and feet commonly feel cooler than the body; check the chest or back of the neck when assessing warmth.
Think about where the feet will be: uncovered, or inside a sleeping bag? Follow that bag's clothing instructions rather than assuming every footless outfit needs the same extra item. If the instructions are unclear, ask the manufacturer.
The sleeping bag still needs its own fit check
The Lullaby Trust advises choosing a sleeping bag that fits around the neck and shoulders so your baby cannot slip inside, and following its manufacturer's TOG guidance. The style of pyjamas does not replace those checks.
A thick footless outfit and a thin footed one are not interchangeable just because both are called pyjamas. Check the whole combination, not only whether toes are covered.
Compare what your baby actually wears
In Snugometer, choose Sleeping indoors (cot), open Check mine and find the Sleep clothing group. Select Footed pyjamas or Unfooted pyjamas to match your pair, then choose the material and add the other pieces your baby will wear.
The unfooted option counts warmth for the torso and legs, but not the feet. The result is a planning example, not a measurement of your baby or a substitute for the sleeping bag's instructions. You do not need to buy another set of pyjamas to make an outfit match a calculator.
